Programs that provide activities for people who want to improve their strength, flexibility, endurance, muscle tone, reflexes, cardiovascular health and/or other aspects of physical functioning.

Physical Fitness

Programs that offer classes or other educational experiences which prepare prospective mothers and their birth partners emotionally and physically for the labor and birth process. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology of birth, relaxation and breathing techniques, different types of labors, birthing/delivery options and postpartum care. Also included are programs that prepare other members of the family (grandparents and siblings) for the arrival of a new family member.

Childbirth Education

Mutual support groups whose members are people who have a disability, illness or other health condition, their families and friends. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and provide an opportunity for participants to share information, resources, practical tips for daily living and encouragement about issues related to the disability or health problem.

Health/Disability Related Support Groups

Programs that provide information that helps the public make choices which promote personal health, prevent illness and disability, take advantage of opportunities for early detection, and support their ability to deal effectively with health problems when they arise. General health education programs provide information about a wide variety of health related topics rather than specializing in a particular area.

General Health Education Programs

Mutual support groups for parents who share a common characteristic or circumstance such as being single parents, dual career parents, multiple birth parents, parents with children who are out of control, or parents of children with disabilities, who come together for educational and social purposes as well as for mutual support. Meeting formats may include in-person, telephone or Internet options.

Parent Support Groups

Offers a wide variety of fitness and recreational programs, family events and preschool, as well as classes teaching crafts, dance and music for all ages. 
Offers group fitness classes throughout the day. Sports programs include basketball, dodgeball, volleyball, soccer, badminton and pickleball.  
Swimming pool programs include lap swimming, water exercise classes, swimming lessons and swim teams.

Community Activities and Classes offered at Federal Way Community Center

Offers a wide variety of fitness and recreational programs, family events and preschool, as well as classes teaching crafts, dance and music for all ages.

Programs that provide classes or individual lessons for people who want to learn or perfect their skills, grace, rhythm, coordination and individual expression when executing or participating in any of a number of different dance forms.

Programs that provide classes, individual lessons or other opportunities for people who want to learn or perfect their skills in music composition and/or performance.

Music Instruction

Programs that increase public awareness of the measures that people can take before, during and after an emergency, regardless of the type of hazard encountered, to protect lives and property. Included may be materials that introduce people to the possibility of a disaster in their area, help families prepare and practice a general disaster plan, provide disaster preparedness suggestions for special populations including people with disabilities and older adults, help families plan for the care of their pets in times of disasters and other similar topics.

General Disaster Preparedness Information

Centers, often operated by the local community department of parks and recreation, that offer, at a single location, a variety of recreational facilities such as athletic fields and courts, a gymnasium, a swimming pool and locker facilities. Recreation centers usually offer an organized program of activities for community residents of all ages and provide all necessary equipment.

Programs that provide classes, individual lessons or other opportunities for people who want to learn or perfect their skills and techniques in any of a variety of visual art forms or crafts.

Arts and Crafts Instruction

Programs that provide creative recreational experiences in cooperative indoor and/or outdoor group living for children, usually age four to 13, or adults who are transported to the site each morning and who return to their homes at the end of each day. Transportation may be provided by the program or may be the responsibility of the family.

Day Camps

Privately operated, for-profit or nonprofit preschool programs based in community settings that have no specialized curriculum and are accessible to all children in the community. Activities generally include shape, color and number recognition; outdoor play; observation of nature and pets; fine and gross motor activities; pre-reading and pre-writing skills development; and opportunities for socialization. Community based preschools may offer half-day sessions (or less) that may be available to different groups of children on specific days of the week.

Community Based Preschools

Programs that provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn, become competitive in and enjoy the organized recreational activity, sport or game of their choice. These programs may be offered by local clubs devoted to a particular activity or sport; may provide individual or team coaching assistance or instruction, access to equipment and facilities, and uniforms, if necessary; and may sponsor or make arrangements for athletes to participate in amateur competitions, usually at the local, regional or state level, and provide officials for games. These events are generally for the enjoyment of the athletes and are not at a high enough competitive level to be considered spectator sports.
