Yakima Health District works in partnership with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and Developmental Disabilities Administration to administer a range of specific programs by subcontracting with local agencies to provide support and services, birth through life, to people with developmental disabilities and their families. Yakima County's Developmental Disabilities program provides:
- Child development services for children ages birth to three years old with developmental delays or disabilities
- School Transition Support to students with developmental disabilities, in their last eligible year of high school
- Adult services to assist adults with developmental disabilities find and maintain employment and live full participating and contributing lives within the community
- Community education and information services designed to increase public awareness and build community capacity for including people with developmental disabilities

A public health nurse is able to provide referrals and coordination of services for children with special health care needs such as asthma, cleft lip and palate, and speech or language delays. The public health nurse can assess a child's needs, make referrals, and work with agencies to help. Services may be accessed by telephone or a home visit.

- ABCD provides access to dental care throughout Benton Franklin Counties for children who have WA Apple Health (Medicaid). Provides assistance in finding a dentist that will fit location, timing and language preferences and assists in coordinating transportation and interpreter services.
- CSHCN provides care coordination for children with complex health needs, assists families to coordinate care with medical providers, to access local resources for their child, and to understand cope with the child's health condition.
- Car seat safety check are also provided at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, 2nd Wednesday of every month. Only by appointment.

Child Check is a universal and free screening program for social, emotional and behavioral development kids 18 months to kindergarten. The program also provides parenting support and resource referrals to Clallam County parents with a focus on helping parents learn more about the development of their children and to encourage the adoption of effective parenting practices.

Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) is the Washington State Department of Early Learning program designed to be the first point of contact for any parents concerned about the development of their children. ESIT offers free developmental screening for infants and toddlers along with an informational meeting for parents with a Family Resources Coordinator. Once a child is screened, a Family Resources Coordinator helps each family access the Early Intervention services through a referral system and provides each family with additional community resources for support.

When a child turns three years of age, the staff helps transition children to preschool services, typically provided by the child’s local school district.
